Behold the Bot!

I've decided to share with y'all the process construction of my robot. As of now it has no name, so feel free to give suggestions!

Phase I:



So far my little bot is just a design on a sheet of paper. The base plate that everything will be bolted down to is a plastic cutting board I found at WalMart for $10. These are the current components that have been selected for the robot.

12.0 Volt Ni-MH 1600mAh Battery Pack
7.2 - 12vdc Ni-CD & Ni-MH Universal Smart Charger
Nylon Wire Tie - 3" (100)
Sabertooth 2X10 Regenerative Dual Channel Motor Controller
Wiring Harness - Battery Connector
64:1, 36mm Planetary Gearmotor, RS-540 Motor X2
Colson Wheel 4" x 7/8" X2
Wheel Hub, Colson 7/8" Wheel, 3/8 bore, 1/8" Broach X2
1" Ball Transfer Caster, Stud Mounted

The frame will be made of aluminum rods. Aluminum because it's relatively cheap and won't weigh the bot down as much as steel would. I've calculated that I'll need ~15ft of the aluminum rods. Only downside to the bot currently is that with the selected battery I'll get about 3 minutes of run time.

No idea, I don't even have the parts yet and don't know when I'll have the parts.

It's for my Senior Project. I'm writing a report on combat robots and part of the project is to have a product related to my research paper. I've always wanted to build a bot to begin with, so I may as well do it now and get a grade for it .

I hope it turns out good as well. I'm typing from the school house and in about 30 minutes I'll be meeting with my mentor to finalize parts placement. All the parts except the caster wheel have come in and he's bringing them to the school so we can start placing everything. Anyway, I'll be back later this afternoon with possibly an updated design and possibly some pictures if the battery in my camera doesn't die

This is still a rough placement of all the parts. only the motors and the front caster wheel have been bolted down. Everything else is strapped down with Velcro. Oh yeah, in that last picture hovering above the motor not tied down to anything is the Master Control Switch. My friends... the end has begun
